HIGH WYCOMBE CYCLING CLUB RACE REPORT 28/04/09

TIME TRIALS:

This weekend saw 87 riders compete in the Newbury Road Club 10 Mile TT.  Despite a strong cross wind the event was won by Jimmy Wright in 20:38, equalling the course record set by Gordon McCauley.  Wycombe riders saw good times from Dave Johnson 23:15, Chris Greig 24:52 and Tracy Jaquest 27:39 on what is actually a tough course.  The National 10 Mile TT is due to be held on the same course on the 24th May.

MTB:

Sunday saw Neil Wragg compete in the Enduro 6 hour MTB race sponsored by wiggle.com.  This was a ‘parc ferme’ format meaning that once the race started the riders had to be self-sufficient and complete as many laps as they could during the 6 hours.

This year, Neil entered the Elite category, and, after completing 11 laps ( 63 miles ) he finished in an excellent 15th position meaning his time this year would place him within the top 20 from 160 riders in the Sports category.

TRACK:

Elsewhere at Palmer Parks First League night of the season, Stewart King finished in a fantastic 2nd position in the B riders Devil.  Stewart has had a good start to his season, also competing at Welwyn track on Friday night where, n the 35 lap scratch race clocked up an awesome time of 21:50.  This was equivalent to a 10 mile time trial and the event was won in 21:16!

SPORTIVES:

Three Wycombe riders took part in the White Horse Challenge on Sunday which saw around 800 riders in total. Sunny conditions hopefully made this a pleasant event for all involved up until the final climb which came after 80 miles.  Andrew Mullis completed the event in 5.15 claiming Gold whilst Stuart Smith and John Francis came in with Silver in 5.24.
