HIGH WYCOMBE CYCLING CLUB REPORT 22.09. 08
Competing in the 6th round of the National Rudy Projects series Richard Davies gained full points when he took top spot in the disability category . The race was held at Botolph Claydon near Winslow. and was organised by the North Bucks Road Club. Riders had to tackle a 10.8 mile circuit with senior riders covering 3 laps and veterans, ladies, and disability riders 2 laps. Richard clocked 52.43. Veteran riders Dave Johnson and Kevin Holloway finished 6th and 7th respectfully on actual time with rides of 49.08 and 50.04 respectively. This same circuit will be used next season for the National British Cycling Time Trial Championships.
Dave and Kevin were in action on Sunday competing in the Hounslow & District 25 mile time trial held on the Bentley bypass with Dave finishing in 9th place overall in a time of 56.10. while Kevin clocked 58.26. taking 16th place.
Rick Featherston and Nick Calkin took part in the inaugural Midland Trailquest Championships on Sunday. This new annual event is to be run as a stand alone championship with an engraved trophy awarded to the winners of both a 5 hour and three hour course. The race started in Naseby, Northants and consisted of 31 checkpoints spread over a large area of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. Rick won the 5 hour event with 570 points out of a possible 700 and Nick came home 9 minutes later with 485 points to take 3rd place overall.
The 2008 Summer Trailquest series has now been completed with Nick finishing in a superb 2nd place overall. It was a very good result for Nick as this season he has divided his race time between Orienteering and Time Trialing having been part of a Wycombe Team that has competed in the season long National Best All-rounder competition covering races from 50 miles to 12hrs. That competition closes next weekend when it will be revealed how the HWCC team of Dave Johnson, Paul Mace, Nick Calkin, Kevin Holloway Chris Greig have finished in the National standings. The latest figures indicated that the Wycombe team may have finished in 3rd place. If this is confirmed it is a superb outcome.
Greg Lewis travelled to South Wales on Sunday morning for the Port Talbot Wheelers 25 mile time trial, despite a wind blowing from the unfavoured north west . direction, some very fast times were set with National Champion Michael Hutchinson getting within 30 seconds of the national 25 record. Set by Chris Boardman in 1993. Hutchinson clocked 46.27. And Greg produced a 2 minute personal best after clocking 56.53.
