Charity Challenges

Rose Ready to go

HWCC Rider Rose Osborne has taken on an end to end Charity raising Ride . Its a Huge challenge and a huge distance to cover however this Tough HWCC ride is more than capable of completing the event .

Tim Osbourne dropped Rose of at Didcot station on Sunday morning. She caught the train to Penzance where she met up with a university friend, Jamie Dunsmore. Monday morning they rode down to Land’s End and then turned round and started heading north, hoping to be in John O Groats early July. Over 1000 miles. Doing it on the cheap, taking plenty of detours, and then taking advantage of sleeping on friend’s floors/beds/sofas along the way. Plymouth, Exeter, Yeovil, Solihull and we are not too sure after that but we know they go to Richmond, Yorks, then over the Pennines to Carlisle (hell of a climb!) then onto Edinburgh. Day off with friends, then on again. Averaging 80+ miles per day , with luggage.

Jamie’s sister, Annalise, died last year after a long illness and this is his idea of doing something good in her memory. Collecting for three different charities, if anyone feels inclined to contribute, they are all worthy causes. Just a pound would do.

Pembroke to High Wycombe Charity Ride

HWCC Pembroke to High Wycombe Challenge Riders

What is now looking like an annual event for HWCC 5 Club riders rode from Pembroke in south wales to High Wycome Guild Hall .

The aim of the ride was to raise awareness of Cancer and raise money for the local scanner appeal . The First 100 miles where covered in under 5 hrs 30 mins which is good going over the Brecon Beacons , The riders had 2 support cars keeping them topped up with fluids and food . The tough parts of the rides involved avoiding what are now very busy A roads and dual cariageways so B road detours from Abergaveny to Monmouth took a toll and slowed down the group . After Monmouth the Forrest of Deans climbs awaited as did the dreaded Birdlip Climb . Great support awaitied the riders as they headed into Oxfordshire with Gordon and Margaret Wright shouting from the roadside helping the riders dig in. After the last Climb of Aston Hill the riders flew into High Wycombe guild hall where Family and Friends awaited them .The whole route was completed in 15hrs 38 mins.

Riders:

Paul Morrissey- Andrew Mullis – Adam Brittain – Karla Boddy -Kevin Higgins

Support – Frank Fallon – David Brittan

The rider would all like to thank both Frank and Adam for the support and advice given along the way – it showed awesome team spirit and was very motivating to have them both there – Chapeau
