WEEKEND RACE RESULTS 05TH MAY 09
HIGH WYCOMBE CYCLING CLUB RACE REPORT 05 MAY09
TIME TRIALS:
The bank holiday weekend saw an array of riders from HWCC competing in various TT courses:
At the Bath Road CC 9.2 Time trial on Wednesday, Stewart King placed an amazing 2nd place with his fastest time of 22.51 on that course. He was only one minute off of Team Quest’s phenomenal Mark Rosser!
Thursday night saw our 2nd Claim rider, Steve Golla compete in the Elite race at the Milton Keynes Bowl. In what was an extremely hard and fast race, Golla managed to make a break in the final two miles, resulting in an amazing win! His run of luck didn’t stop there as in true Golla style on Saturday he won the West London Combine 10TT in 20.10, followed by another win on Sunday in the West London Combine 25TT with a 52.20.
Also competing in the West London Combine 25TT was HWCC’s Adam Topham placing 6th with another credible time of 55.13, despite mechanical problems. Other Wycombe riders braving the cold and windy conditions were Richard Davies 1.01.58, Anna Holder 1.10.56 and Geoff Powell with a very respectable 1.00.09 considering he raced the previous day in the Andy Morrison Memorial RR.
Elsewhere, in Cirencester, Ralph Dadswell competed in the Bath CC 10TT on Sunday. Within this TT they hosted an ‘Old Skool’ event which meant that tri-bars, discs and extensive use of carbon were not allowed. Ralph rode his Roberts lo-pro and with his fastest 10 in a few years clocked a personal best of 23.26 placing 6th overall. A very cold Bank Holiday Monday saw Ralph out again, minus the tandem tricycle, riding solo at the VTTA 10 TT with a time of 24.49. Track champion Richard Davies was also competing with an equalling time to Ralph of 24.49. 2nd claim member Michelle Ayres finished with a 26:03 and John Francis with 27.22. The event was won by Peter Weir in an outstanding 21.36!

ROAD RACE:
On Saturday, amongst 70 riders a team of three Wycombe riders, James Norris, Dave Hawkins and Geoff Powell competed in the Andy Morrison Memorial Road Race at Cranfield University.
The event was a 2nd Cat race over a 40 mile flat course. A very fast pace from the start meant riders were soon dropping off from the back but our riders stayed with it and half way round our boys made a break and managed to stay away until the bunch pulled them back. James Norris contested the sprint finish to place an extremely well deserved 6th overall no doubt clocking up a few well earned points! Dave Hawkins and Geoff Powell both finished middle of the bunch. The race was won by time trialist Richard Wood from Team MK who made a break at 20 miles and managed to stay away.
SPORTIVES:
No news from any of our Sportive riders although I do believe Ray Tyrell and Pauline Erodotou road an Audax in Newbury on Sunday although I don’t have any feedback on this. Stuart Smith also road an Audax in Essex which I believe was 75 miles, again no report on the actual event.
