James Norris came second in the Spring Chicken Road race this saturday . Good conditions and some smart and hard riding by James placed him well in the sprint and he got a great and well deserved second place. HWCC Rider Geoff Powell also worked hard for James and pulled back a strong group in the breakaway , this again demonstrates the great team work , trust and passion HWCC riders have when riding together , something sadly missing from other clubs . The HWCC Tour of wales Team rider was also present on the HWCC club run to Waterperry on sunday where some good through and off and sign racing was in abundance

Also Racing today was Matt Stevens .Matt came 5th in the West Drayton Black Park MTB Race.There was a tough field to contend with but Matt managed a good placing and made the top 5 which keeps him on tartget for his seasons goals. Matt Came 7th the Previous week so is creeping up the leader board.

Passing of a Legend

It was with some sadness that we heard of the Death of Guy Lapebie at the age of 93 this week .

HWCC riders have ridden the Lapebie events in Luchon for the last few years so in 2010 we will be putting in that extra effort .

Guy Lapébie (born 28 November 1916 Saint-Geours-de-Maremne; died 8 March 2010, Bagnères-de-Luchon) was a French professional road bicycle racer. Guy Lapébie was the younger brother of Tour de France winner Roger Lapébie. In the 1936 Olympics, Lapébie won two golden medals and one silver medal

So Chapeu to Guy and best wishes to his Family and sister Bridgette.

100 mile reliability trial 7 March 2010

There have been some changes made to the 100 mile route since last year.

We’ve taken out the loop through Stratton Audley (Northeast of Bicester) and diverted into Winslow. This change gives riders a chance to have a cuppa in Winslow, Thame and Benson.

James Norriss -Gareth Baston -Clive Nichols-Tom Crouch are High Wycombe Cycling Clubs Tour of Wales stage race Team .

The Team are about to Embark of there Training camp in Sunny Majorca .

So before the headed off to sunnier weather I caught up with two of the Team at the Cynergy PT Fitnes studio in Fawley .

Wed Night Turbo sessions have stepped up a pace with some Hard interval sessions and some Motivational Longwick Video Footage.

Dr Gordon Wright put HWCC Riders through the pain mill and some are really starting to show improvements as recent RAMP tests and WATT bike sessions have shown.

Yet again the weather threw itself at HWCC club riders doing its best to mess with heads and disrupt training plans this sunday.

Snow on the hills and a Rain /Ice mix didnt stop some riders getting in the Compulsory 4 hrs riding with a Cafe stop to refuel in Benson Riverside Cafe

Also – dont let the weather impact your 2010 season . Get your Turbo and Bike down to West Wycombe Village hall for 7pm wed nights and take part in Dr Gordon Wrights Turbo training sessions.

HWCC have a new approach to group Turbo sessions which in the long term will improve your power and your Endurance turning your into a very fast rider indeed.

Sessions are an Hour long and much cake and tea is available after the session to revive you .

Chapeau 100K Reliability Riders

What a Valentines day it was for 17 HWCC Reliability Riders ,Snow, Rain , Ice and punctures visited the brave ( or simply nutts )Club riders on the day of love and warmness .

Not much love was lost on the rides though , Punctures being the main bug bare . Either way your dear old Club Mag Editor met several of the riders riding up Aston Hill and towed the sad , sick , muddy faced souls to the Oasis that was Costa Coffee . The Medium Group finishing in 3 Hrs 55mins

RELIABILITY AND TURBO BONANZA

Good weather for a change meant 30 plus riders turning out for the HWCC 50 mile reliability

Fast Froup -Clive Nicholls,James Norris and Gareth Batson finished the event is 2hrs 35 mins

Medium Group riders -Neil Wragg ,Mike Chappel and Paul Lazenby finished in 2hrs 58

One accident involving Karla Boddy and a muddy section of the course meant an ambulance had to be called . Good news is that Karla is well but hacked off that now she has to heal her broken Collar bone so a few weeks off the bike for her .

last weeks session was well attended with more expected this week . Several new members enjoyed the Turbo experience as per Gordon Wrights tough programme . Sessions are a tough as you want them to be so get yourself down and enjoy the burn as focus here will payback during your coming season
