MTB
Nick calkin ventured up to Staffordshire this Sunday for another round of the www.midlandtrailquests.co.uk Autumn Series.
As you can imagine the weather was fairly atrocious to begin with, strong winds and driving rain. However, things brightened up towards the end of the event.
The 3 hour MTB orienteering event took place in difficult to navigate trails in the northern part of Cannock Chase and slightly easier bridleways to the North.
Nick chose a clockwise route and managed to score 309 with a 1 point time penalty which put nick 2nd place overall l point away from last season’s champion Ian Cartwright on 316. However, nick found a 10 point error in his score which he appealed and if the organizer agrees nick should end up 1st with 319 points
There’s one round left of the series on the 15th of November which if nicks placed reasonably high in he Should be in with a chance of winning the series overall
Club run – sunday 1st Nov
Club riders
Paul Morrissey-Neil Wragg-Andrew Mullis- Tony Penal- Adam Britain and Karla Boddy Braved the 27mph winds and torrential rain on this Sundays clubs training ride. 35 miles were managed in the terrible conditions.
Only one slight crash involving Paul Morrissey and a slippy road surface ( nothing hurt apart from pride) occurred and overall some good training was had in fierce head and cross winds . All riders finished in good condition and enjoyed the wonders of costa coffee after the ride finished .
Wednesday night circuit/ core training west wycombe village hall.
The usual circuit training is underway developing core stability and keeping riders in good shape during the winter off season. 25 + members turned out Wednesday night for the training session which was fun , tough and varied.
The wed training nights have been further enhanced by Dr Gordon Wright with the introduction of a new training and assessment tool ( watt bike). HWCC new watt bike is being used to test riders power outputs and burst fitness.
This tool will be of great use to coaches at the club and enable an increased understanding of power output and physical ability. More HWCC riders will be tested as the off season continues however please try to let Gordon know in advance so that the correct time can be allocated.
