WEEKEND RACE RESULTS 29TH JUNE 09

TIME TRIALS:

Hot conditions and lots of sunshine on a fast course on Saturday saw HWCC’s Adam Topham PB by 5.01 minutes at the Corinium and Bristol South 50 mile TT.  He placed a very good 7th overall with an outstanding time of 1.45.01.  James Wall won the event in 1.42.57.

Greg Lewis also achieved a personal best time of 56.33 at the CDLC 25TT.  This was a PB by 20 seconds.

Over at Newbury RC 10TT riders were also out braving the heat.  Richard Prebble took the win in 20.23 with our 2nd claim rider Steve Golla taking 2nd place in 20.31.  Richard Davies placed 27th in 24.05 that afternoon, riding again that evening despite the thunderstorm at the Hertfordshire Wheelers 10TT where he placed 27th again in 22.16.  He just missed out on a PB by 7 seconds. Although the air was still and fresh the riders had a lot of spray from the traffic to contend with! Dave Lancaster also competed that evening and considering he was the last to ride and had no warm up due to the worsening weather, still came in with a very commendable time of 24.05.

Sunday bought our guys out again to ride.  Wycombe were on top form over at the Newbury RC 25 TT scooping the team prize by over a minute from the Newbury boys.  Our team was made up of Chris Starling 56.21, Richard Davies 1.01.21 and Chris Greig 1.01.37 with Steve Golla taking the win in 52.23.

Elsewhere, slightly closer to home, Wycombe’s Geoff Powell was at Great Missenden at the Westerley CC 10TT.  Geoff achieved a PB of 22.42 placing second to the Westerley’s Malcolm Woolsey in 22.35.

ROAD RACE:

No actual race results but the breaking news of the week is that HWCC’s James Norris has been selected by British Cycling to ride as part of a team in the Tour of Wales.  This is a 5-day stage race starting on Wednesday. Well done James awesome achievement and good luck!

SPORTIVES:

Last weekend saw Frank Fallon going back to his Scottish roots to ride the 100 mile Trossachs Ton Sportive.  Taking him round many of his old training miles through some very picturesque parts of Central Scotland with 2115 metres of climbing he finished in 6.44!

Also last weekend a number of HWCC riders were out taking part in the brutal and very hilly Circuit of the Cotswolds.  Our riders were Jeff Roberts 6.32.30 Silver, Simon Holmes 5.38.49 Gold, Andrew Mullis 6.21.59 Gold and Adrian Windsor 5.58.25 Gold.  I also believe Stuart Smith was riding, don’t have a time for him but I believe he got a Silver.

Seasoned Sportive rider Ossie Assem was out this Sunday braving the tough climbs of the Chiltern 100 Challenge.  He completed this challenging course in 5.55.

MTB:

Neil Wragg was out this weekend competing in the English MTB Marathon Championships.  This was a very hard 100km course through the New Forest and was one of the toughest races he has ever taken part in.  Riding through bumpy fields, rutted single track and rocky off camber woods pushed Neil’s ability but he carried on through high humidity to finish in a very commendable 14th place.

TRACK:

No news from HWCC’s resident trackie Stewart King although rumour has it that father and son duo Kev and Joe Holloway have recently been letting their presence be known at Palmer Park!

more from our club stalker

Thanks to Ossie for the latest instalment of ‘Pro Stalking’.  contador-0

In his words:   Spanish TV were trying to interview him (Contador) while I was rather vociferously trying to get the photo with him. Eventually, the dudes from Spanish TV got fed up with the failed interview given the persistence of yours truly, and asked me to keep quiet!! Haaha !! What a great moment!!

Going fast – a new route?

Our American friend, Rob Roop, asked about training recently, and how I was going.

I responded like this:

Hi Rob

Nice to hear from you!

I’m going like a supercharged train at the moment, due to some radical, but non-training-based experiments on myself. They’re quite radical, so I don’t recommend all of them, but a lot is to do with de-stressing, with supplementastion, and with serious diet re-adjustment. As such, I’m in a position to be an even better Holistic Training Mentor than ever before.

Aspire Holistic cycle Coaching is me, and I would love to take you on board, and for the tiny sum of £240.00 per annum, I can build tailored and adjustable schedules for you, based on your life, your aims, your work and family, and the unexpected tweaks that life throws at us all.

Have a think about whether this sounds cool. If it does, then dietary advice is also on the , erm, menu.

This is how its worked for me:

On May 8th, I met Sally Roe, to talk about spirit, health, and the glow of life that I feel should pass through us all. She has utterly changed how I eat and drink. I’m down, at the moment, to between 3 and 6 hours a week training, and an additional 6 hours of resting, drinking water, stretching, and eating.

As such, I’ve done a personal best 25 – all-time pb, of 52.07, and a personal best – again, all-time pb, 50 of 1.47.28.  Neither were in ideal conditions, and both were slightly compromised by my (decreasing, but) ongoing issues with alcohol.

This is just the start of me going fast, and I want everyone to share with it, and raise their own game to new heights of enthusiasm, excitement and raw power.

There. Rant over.

New 25m TT course record

Dave Johnson celebrates

Dave Johnson celebrates

Club Coach Dave Johnson broke (created?) a new course record on Tuesday 9th June 2009 in the Evening League TT.  The club has, courtesy of trike specialist Ralph Dadswell, created a new 25 mile course for use in two of the races in the club’s season long Jack & Cath Pearson Evening League Time Trials.

Who we are

High Wycombe Cycling Club was founded in 1924 and has produced many accomplished cyclists across many disciplines.   Cycling comes in many forms and the club has over 150 members who take part in probably all of them!  HWCC Members participate in road racing, time trialling, cyclo cross and mountain bike racing as well as cyclosport events, social rides, touring, club runs, training and trips abroad.
On Sundays all year the club meets at the Guild Hall in High Wycombe High St (next to MacDonalds) for a 9am start.  Rides are over 50 miles with a cafe stop in the middle.  See the Club Runs category.
The Sprocket is High Wycombe Cycling Club’s magazine. We publish a full colour 20 page magazine every month and is free to download from the website.  The magazine is written by club cyclists about everything on two wheels from road racing in the UK to the Tour de France, mountain biking, time trialling, touring and fitness.  In fact everything that the club does.

It’s Millar Time!
